Cancer Research Simplified deeply saddened about the passing of its first mentor, Richard Klein6/8/2015
We have dedicated our Lung Cancer Symposium to Cancer Research Simplified's first mentor, Richard (Dick) Klein, who passed away
~Cancer Research Simplified deeply saddened about the passing of its first mentor, Richard Klein~ We are deeply saddened to learn that Mr. Richard (Dick) Klein, Cancer Research Simplified’s first and dedicated mentor from SCORE has passed away. Mr. Klein has helped Cancer Research Simplified off the ground, with many hours spent in often extended meeting in person, online, or over the phone. Dr. Klein never felt obligated, but rather did so with excitement and pleasure. He was impressed by Cancer Research Simplified’s mission, and helped wherever and whenever he could to have it develop and grow. “I cannot describe how deeply saddened I am about Dick’s passing, it hit me very deeply,” said Ayguen Sahin, M.Sc., Ph.D, Founder and CEO of Cancer Research Simplified (CRS), a Boston-based, global cancer education non-profit. “Dick was an incredible mentor whom I cannot thank enough for all he has done to get CRS off the ground. He was always so excited to work with me on all aspects of the development of CRS, and mentioned that he very much appreciated my passion, dedication, and hard work. I could call him whenever I needed help, and he was always there with amazing guidance. CRS has a lot to thank him for. May he rest in peace, and may he know that I always appreciated him. He was the kind of mentor I always had looked for.”

Western Diet after Prostate Cancer Diagnosis Increases the Risk of Death, Harvard study finds.
According to the senior author, Jorge E. Chavarro, MD, ScD, assistant professor of nutrition and epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and of medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School, men diagnosed with non-metastatic prostate cancer whose diet was more ‘Westernized,’ i.e., contained processed meats, refined grains, potatoes, and high-fat dairy, were more likely to die of prostate cancer.
"Men diagnosed with nonmetastatic prostate cancer have a long life expectancy, and many die of unrelated causes. The Western pattern was significantly related to a higher risk of prostate cancer–specific and all-cause mortality. A post-diagnostic Western dietary pattern was associated with higher prostate cancer–specific and all-cause mortality, whereas a Prudent dietary pattern was related to lower all-cause mortality after prostate cancer diagnosis." The study, published in Cancer Prevention Research can be found here: http://cancerpreventionresearch.aacrjournals.org/content/8/6/545.abstract To learn more about prostate cancer, check out our educational videos and reading materials. |
