Thank you for your interest in serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Cancer Education and Research Institute® (CERI).
CERI is the first and only simplified, multi-language 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The next several years vows to be exciting and vital for CERI. We are seeking active and committed leaders to join our Board of Directors and to play a central role in implementing our mission. Since its inception in 2013, CERI always delivered its work with highest quality and ethical standards with tangible results, being worthy of our strong public support.
The primary responsibility of board of directors is to provide leadership in overall policy, organizational direction, strategic planning, and fiduciary accountability. Serving on the board also involves actively serving in at least one committee, including but not limited to:

- Energetic people who are not already overextended with other commitments, eager to put their enthusiasm, energy and leadership for the fulfillment of our mission of a healthier world for all.
- Community leaders and philanthropists willing to engage their peers to help us continue to provide the best outcome for cancer patients, the public,
- Leaders at health institutions, universities, and schools interested in building strong partnerships with us.
- Health care professionals, including oncologists, nurses, public health specialists, and clinical psychologists dedicated to make cancer cure and education possible to all.
- Scholars/academics/researchers who want to put their expertise in cancer and cancer research to community use and to advance CERI’s cancer research program.
- Patients/survivors/family members/caregivers who are interested in putting their energy to be strong advocates for our mission and who have demonstrated talent, joy, and energy in chairing successful fundraising events and promotions.
We expect the board to be active and dynamic, empowering, leading, welcoming, collaborative, supportive, and dedicated.
We are looking for brilliant people who:
- Can articulate and demonstrate passion and interest in CERI’s mission.
- Have the ability to maintain confidentiality and trust
- Have experience in helping organizations develop, either as a volunteer, staff, board member, or funder
- Can commit to attend to board and committee meetings
- Have expertise and/or experience in one or more: Strategic planning, finance, fundraising, government relations, public relations, marketing, legal, organizational development, public speaking, social media, community organizing and events, deep engagement in diverse cultural and ethnic communities, native speaker in non-English languages.

Board Recruitment FAQ — Cancer Education and Research Institute® (CERI)
What is the Board of Directors?
Our Board of Directors is the governing body that ensures our mission of personalized, whole‑person cancer care continues with integrity, strategic focus, and sustainable impact.
Why are you recruiting now?
We are entering a pivotal growth phase; strengthening governance to support programmatic expansion and system‑level influence — so we’re seeking mission‑aligned leaders with expertise in healthcare operations, strategy, development, communications, policy, or public health.
What does board service involve?
Service includes:
- Four quarterly board meetings per year
- Meaningful engagement in strategic and mission advancement discussions
- An annual give/get expectation
- Taking on fiduciary and stewardship responsibilities that support organizational health and impact
When does the board term begin?
New board terms begin on January 1, 2026.
What qualities are you looking for in candidates?
We seek leaders who bring:
- A passion for systems‑level change and improved patient outcomes
- Relevant professional experience (healthcare strategy, public health, fundraising, communications, etc.)
- A collaborative spirit and commitment to shared governance
What is the time commitment?
Board members commit to quarterly meetings and active engagement outside meetings as needed to contribute to the board’s strategic work.
How do I apply?
Applications were due December 20, 2025. We are now reviewing and interviewing candidates, and decisions will be communicated in early 2026.
How will candidates be evaluated?
Candidates are considered based on the fit of their experience with the board’s current needs, alignment with mission, and readiness to contribute both strategic insight and governance capacity.
Is this a volunteer role?
Yes — board service is voluntary and mission‑driven.
