Cancer Education Nonprofit’s Cancer Scientist CEO Gives Lecture on Colon Cancer
Cambridge, MA…. Cancer Research Simplified (CRS)’s cancer scientist CEO and Founder, Ayguen Sahin, MSc, PhD will give a full lecture on colon cancer at its third public cancer symposium on colon cancer to be held on July 28th, 2015 at Cambridge College in Cambridge, MA.
Two and a half years ago, Dr. Ayguen Sahin, an award-winning cancer scientist, founded the Boston-based, global nonprofit organization on cancer education, aiming to communicate scientific research to cancer patients and the general public. “Bringing science “down” to people was always a passion of mine, hence my Master’s degree in Applied Biology,” said Dr. Sahin. “During my doctoral work and research in Germany and postdoctoral fellowship and faculty membership at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, I felt a growing gap between cancer scientists and cancer patients and thus, the need of bridging this gap.” Dr. Sahin founded Cancer Research Simplified (CRS) in January 2013, which earn several awards in 2014, including the 2014 Top-Rated Nonprofit Award by Great Nonprofits based on the votes and reviews of the public.
Dr. Sahin will now provide a full colon cancer lecture as the third lecture in the Cancer Symposium series. Sponsored by Genentech, Boston Thermography Center, The Print House, MBTA, Life Alive Organic Café, Flatbread Company, Iggy’s Bread, J.P. Licks, and Trader Joe’s, the lecture will provide simplified, factual information on colon cancer prevention and early detection, current treatment strategies, clinical trials, new research and drug approvals, life after survival, and nutritional facts.
“Educating the public on all types of cancer through our educational videos on YouTube and our written materials on our website, we know now the ‘exact’ way of simplifying the educational materials we write for our audience to be able to understand,” said Dr. Sahin. “Sometimes saying “DNA” is not enough and we have to simplify it even further. Therefore, our goal is to collaborate with cancer centers, hospitals, and schools to bring our ‘unique and effective’ cancer education method as a service to the public.”
Born and raised in Germany and coming from a Turkish family, Dr. Sahin is bilingual in German and Turkish, thus provides educational materials and presentations in English, German, and Turkish. Together with her team of volunteers, CRS provides further educational materials in Italian, Spanish, Afrikaans, and Russian.
