CERI Patient Intake Assistant 

Description: 
The CERI Patient Intake Assistant supports cancer patients and/or families through the intake process, offering empathetic assistance with paperwork and assessments while providing information about available resources. Flexible hours and stipend provided; make a meaningful impact in healthcare support and contribute to CERI's mission of comprehensive access to high-quality cancer care, research, and education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the intake process for cancer patients, providing support with paperwork, documentation, and initial assessments.
  • Collaborate with the CERI Personalized Patient Program Team to ensure accurate and timely collection of patient information.
  • Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity when interacting with patients and families, respecting their privacy and emotional well-being.
  • Provide information about available CERI resources to help cancer patients and families navigate within the CERI Personalized Patient Program.
  • Works closely with the Executive Director and/or assigned Committee Chair for proper finalization of projects at hand. 
  • Meets pressing deadlines.
  • Serves as a natural ambassador for the organization.
  • ​Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualification and Skills: 
  • Empathy and compassion for individuals facing cancer diagnoses.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage paperwork and information effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Comprehensive understanding of and respect for confidentiality and a commitment to maintaining a supportive and caring environment.

  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills 
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and highly organized 
  • Ability to produce high-quality work on critical deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment 
  • Undergraduate, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, or professionals with a focus on medicine, cancer research, health care, public health, psychology, nursing, and pharmacy are welcome but not required. 
  • Bilingualism is a plus
Nationwide, worldwide applicants and applicants outside of the Greater Boston Area are welcome to apply.  

Other requirements:
International students in the US are required to provide verification for eligibility for volunteering from their school or international offices.  

Location:
The CERI Patient Intake Assistant will mainly work remotely. 

The Length of Appointment:
This position requires a commitment for a minimum of 12 months. After an initial 3-month test period, he/she may be eligible for a full-year reappointment at the discretion of the supervisor to complete a full year. 

Time Commitment:
Hours are flexible. Generally, 1-2 hours for 2-3 days per week, depending on his/her successfully accomplishing his/her assigned projects and organizational deadlines. 

Development opportunities and recognition:
After successful completion of a full year, he/she may be promoted to a managerial role within the organization at the discretion of the supervisor. Volunteers are highly valuable members of CERI and each volunteer makes a true difference in CERI’s work to provide the necessary education to cancer patients and the general public. CERI recognizes volunteers who successfully completed their placement. Special recognition is given yearly for outstanding volunteers. 

Support:
Training for this position will be provided. Also, the Executive Director and/or assigned committee chair will be available for questions.
