CERI honored with Top-Rated Nonprofit Award
Cancer, COVID-19, and the Community in Need
CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS,USA– October 30, 2020 – Cancer Education and Research Institute®(CERI), formerly Cancer Research Simplified, announced today it received the 2020 Top-Rated Nonprofit Award by GreatNonprofits, a provider of user reviews of charities and nonprofits.
CERI is the first and only simplified and multi-language global cancer nonprofit organization. Recognized by the United Nations with the UNIATF Award 2019, CERI’s work includes making cancer and cancer research understandable for everyone and bridging the gap between cancer professionals and cancer patients.
This year, CERI’s efforts in ensuring cancer patients’ successful treatment and care intensified during the pandemic, and broadly expanded its work to assist the community in need.
“Being named a Top-Rated Nonprofit for the seventh year in a row is incredibly valuable and an honor for us as this award is a proof that we make a true, tangible difference in people’s lives; especially this year, in a time of crisis,” said Ayguen Sahin, MSc, PhD, CEO, founder, cancer lead of CERI. “The COVID-19 pandemic hit all of us in a most intensive way. Not only that we tried to survive like all nonprofits, we shifted and expanded our programs beyond cancer to fulfill the needs of the community, particularly the immigrant community with lack of English proficiency.”
“Our already demanding schedule upraised quite dramatically from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. But it was important for us to start with our COVID-19 education early on. On March 1st, we began our first COVID-19 education programs along with our already extensive cancer education programs, and on March 17 we launched a Turkish COVID-19 website for the large Turkic communities across the U.S. We literally bend over backwards to have our cancer patients, nationally and internationally, get their necessary treatments during the early stages of crisis, or rather, chaos, which was also written in a Boston Globe article, and also assisted pregnant women and sick people to get their necessary care during the pandemic. We have exhausted all our resources, emotionally, physically, and financially. But it was all worth it,” said Sahin.
CERI expanded its programs during the crisis and served the community in need with assistance in health insurance, finding doctors, identifying COVID-19 testing sites, arranging doctor’s appointments, unemployment insurance (qualifying or non-qualifying) application, identifying monetary resources for individuals and families in need, ensuring safety, case management, and up-to-date COVID-19 education.
The award was based on the number of positive reviews that CERI received. People posted their personal experience with the nonprofit. Cancer Education and Research Institute earned this award with a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
“Cancer Education and Research Institute is a great example of a nonprofit making a real difference in their community,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “Their award is well-deserved recognition not only of their work, but the tremendous support they receive, as shown by the many outstanding reviews they have received from people who have direct experience working with Cancer Education and Research Institute.”
