I'm Back from the UN. Cancer Was Sidelined.
That's It - We're Taking Charge! I'm back from the UN General Assembly - HLM4 on NCDs and Mental Health. I'm exhausted. It was powerful to be back at the UN General Assembly - the 6th anniversary of our UNIATF Award. Deeply emotional. It was great speaking with Dr. Nick Banatvala, Head of the Secretariat for the UN Interagency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs), again. It was wonderful getting to see fellow awardees from around the world, and meeting new amazing leaders from civil societies and member state representatives. But here's what shook me: cancer patients were IGNORED in the political declaration and in the meetings and talks that will shape global health policy until 2030. Only ONE cancer hospital was called to speak - and they didn't even mention cancer. I couldn't believe it! I submitted our 19-page Urgent Policy Brief with critical amendments. I fought for speaking time. I pushed for cancer to be included. And now? The REAL fight, or push, however you want to call it, begins. We have a short window to submit every amendment we can. |

URGENT ACTION 1:
We need to reach our set UN Mission Goal of $2,000 in 7 days Before I left, we launched a fundraising campaign. We raised $223 (thank you Aygen from Sweden, Sarah from Arizona, and Julia from San Francisco!). That means we have $1,777 left to reach our goal. This $2,000 is NOT just a number! It is what we need to: ✅ Continue submitting amendments to the UN ✅ Fund our advocacy work with global partners ✅ Amplify cancer patients' voices at the policy level URGENT ACTION 2: We're relaunching our global EmpowermentAgainstCancer™ campaign with an enhancement: The Personalized Cancer Care for All™ campaign - a movement to make personalized cancer care the worldwide standard, not the exception, or a "luxury". Here's how YOU become part of both actions: 1️⃣ Download the sign (link in bio) and fill in a patient, survivor, or loved one's name, city, and country 2️⃣ Post your photo with #PersonalizedCancerCareForAll (include #canceredinstitute) 3️⃣ Donate ANY amount toward our $2,000 goal 4️⃣ Suggested: Create your own fundraising page (below) and start fundraising for our critical cause. Why both matter: Your DONATION = resources to push amendments at the UN level Your SIGN = proof to the UN that the public DEMANDS personalized cancer care Start your own fundraising page!
